Michigan Wolverines Defensive Line Coach Surprising Resigns Amid Legal Trouble

Michigan Wolverines defensive line coach has suddenly resigned after a recent arrest. He was suspended due to pending legal action related to the arrest.

Michigan Wolverine defensive line coach Greg Scruggs has resigned his position effective immediately.

Sherrone Moore, Head Coach of Michigan recently said: “I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately. I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter.”

Scruggs New Hire for Michigan Wolverines

Scruggs was recently hired by Michigan as the defensive line coach. He was on staff for the Wisconsin Badgers in 2023 and worked as the defensive line coach for the New York Jets prior to that.

Scruggs, 33, was hired by recently hired by head coach Sherrone Moore’s staff on March 6. 10 days later he was arrested for an OWI.

The Michigan football program announced Moore’s suspension of Scruggs following the news of his arrest and said it would investigate the situation further.

“Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated,” Moore said in a statement obtained by the Free Press. “He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review details of the incident.”

Scruggs held the position of Michigan defensive line coach for a total of 16 total days.

No word on whether or not the investigation led to his resignation. No further details have been released at this time.
